    Banarasi Boy

Mark Twain, Following the Equator, 1897

I was lucky to be born in Varanasi, one of the oldest living cities in the world. Its narrow lanes and stone steps down to the Ganges, its temples and culture, taught me before any school did. You can take the boy out of Banaras, but not Banaras out of the boy.
